Imagine this: you were assigned to work on a project last minute, and as you’re opening Photoshop on your laptop, it crashes. You start to panic because you realize this project is due the next morning and whatever backup device you have does not have photoshop. This is where Pixlr comes in.

Pixlr.com is an online photo editor created by Autodesk that offeres a free-web based creative platform similar to that of Adobe Photoshop. It comes in two types: (1) Pixlr Express, which allows you to add filters, borders, stickers, overlays and quick fixes; and (2) Pixlr Editor, which is the closest to Photoshop you can get.

Pixlr Express provides the same set of tools; such as the clone stamp tool, filters, layers, and even the magic wand tool. Pixlr also offers desktop usage (available for download for Mac and Windows computers) and mobile apps (available for iOS and Android devices) that work similarly to its browser-based relatives. Although you will need to pay to unlock all the filters, borders and stickers, the free version is good enough for those essential photo editing jobs.

So the next time you find yourself in a bind and in need of a photo editing app, try out Pixlr.com.
