Anvil Publishing Inc. introduced its latest book offering entitled “Remembering/Rethinking EDSA,” a compilation of literary pieces or passages of individuals who participated in the People Power Revolution of 1986. The book launch took place at Museum of Contemporary art and Design (MCAD) last May 19.

With a decent number of people present in the venue, book editor JPaul Manzanilla gave a brief talk on the content of the book, which includes personal accounts and reflections of activists, artists, and other people who have witnessed the events of the EDSA revolution of 1986. The former University of the Philippines (UP) student leader also talked about the fact that over 10 million Filipinos presumably wanted former president Ferdinand Marcos Sr.’s son Ferdinand Marcos Jr. to sit as the second highest position of the country.

According to Manzanilla, the Philippine government lacks institutions that would inform Filipinos about the horror that has been evident during Ferdinand Marcos’ regime. Manzanilla, who is currently a graduate student at the Department of Southeast Asian Studies of the National University of Singapore, came to the Philippines for the purpose of launching the book. The book editor closed his speech by saying that the it is a contribution for the Filipinos to learn lessons from the history, “that we may strive for a better future,” he added. Prior to Manzanilla, book contributor Jose Santos Ardivilla also gave a talk about the recently held national elections, and reminded the audience on how media can distribute information and misinformation.
