Benilde takes home two Red Cross awards

The Benilde Red Cross Youth Council and its student president were recipients of separate awards for records of distinct service.

The Benilde Red Cross Youth Council (BRCYC) bagged third place for Best Service, while the organization’s current president, Joy Ezekiel G. Salonga, was awarded the second Most Outstanding Red Cross Youth Member, in The Outstanding Red Cross Youth of Manila (TORCYM) awards held last April 7 in Intramuros, Manila.

The honors were given by the awarding body and the organization’s alma mater, the Manila Red Cross Youth (MRCY) and the Philippine Red Cross (PRC) to BRCYC, and Salonga in particular, who has supported and contributed to the Red Cross’s programs, and other schools and student volunteers (from junior, senior, and college level) for the Red Cross Youth (RCY).

In line with the MRCY’s tagline “PUSOng Manila RCY: Passionate and United in Service to Others,” the recognition of TORCYM aims to highlight exceptional and dedicated Red Cross Youth leaders and councils for rendering unselfish service to the humanitarian organization.

Benilde is joined by fellow Red Cross Youth Council finalists from Adamson University, De La Salle University, Far Eastern University, Lyceum of the Philippines University, Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Maynila, Unibersidad de Manila and the University of Santo Tomas.

In a Facebook post, the BRCYC expressed gratitude in receiving the said recognition.

“We would like to thank Our Heavenly Father, Our Mentors, SIO and SAU Family, Our Beloved Adviser, Our President and most especially the Benildean Community for being our inspiration to serve and and be a student leader/volunteer at all times. The Benilde Red Cross Youth Council will strive more and to continue doing our service extraordinarily well,” BRCYC said last April 8.

According to the RCY Philippines’ official website, the awardees were chosen based on their leadership skills and depth of involvement in local events as a participant or as an organizer within PRC and other organizations or institutions.
