Fresh from the team’s first loss in the season last Wednesday, the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Blazers went home with their second defeat in a row (70-59), this time against the Adamson University (AdU) Soaring Falcons in the 11th Filoil Flying V Season Premier Cup yesterday, May 14, at the Filoil Flying V centre, San Juan.
Hungry to bounce back from their recent loss, the Blazers entered the game with surging force, but their opponent eagerly strengthened offensive play giving an early 18-15 advantage for the Falcons. The Taft ballers doubled their defense as they tried to catch up with their opponent’s growing lead and eventually did after closing the deficit to (31-28) by the end of the first half.
At the the start of the third quarter, the boys in green and white struggled offensively and only managed to achieve a 25% shooting average from the field. The shooting drought led to a 22-4 run in favor of the Soaring Falcons. The Blazers couldn’t seem to their offensive rhythm and instead found themselves trailing the Falcons (56-36) entering the final period.
In the final quarter, the Blazers found offense in Clement Leutcheu, who had 14 points and 16 rebounds for the game. However, the team’s effort late in the game was not enough to bring them back in as they dropped their third game to the Falcons (70-59). The Blazers will get the chance to snap their two-game losing streak this coming Wednesday, May 17, when they take on the Far Eastern University (FEU) Tamaraws at the Filoil Flying V Centre, San Juan. Quarters: 18-15, 31-28, 56-36, 70-59
