The Weekly Tune-up: The 80’s alternative

Rebels, misfits, non-conformist “bizarre-o’s”—these are the kids who grew up in different fads and faces. In the 80s, they were called the new wavers while the genre of New Wave challenged norms in gender and in genres, creating a fresh sound for the alternative music scene.

This week’s mix celebrates the punk rock, electronic, as well as synth-pop masterpieces of the New Wave, such as hits from The Psychedelic Furs, New Order, and The Cure, among others.

As said in John HughesThe Breakfast Club from 1985, “We’re all pretty bizarre, some of us are just better at hiding it.”
