Entering their final game with a 0-4 win-loss record, the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Lady Blazers finally snatched a win in the 2017 Premier Volleyball League (PVL) Collegiate conference against the Technological Institute of the Philippines (TIP) Lady Engineers (3-1) last Sept. 30 at the Filoil Flying V Centre, San Juan.
Hungry for their first and last win in the competition, the Lady Blazers executed their plays well in the opening set. However, despite their successful attacks, their unforced errors eventually gave way for the Lady Engineers to steal the first set (25-18).
As the Taft-based squad found their rhythm, the Lady Engineers, led by Alyssa Layug’s 12 points, struggled in the remaining sets. With both teams gunning for their first win, it was TIP which ended the season listless after losing to Benilde in four sets (18-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-22).
Veteran Ranya Musa led the Blazers with a total of 19 points throughout the game, 18 from the spikes alone, together with Rachel Austero’s 17 points for their team. Still, the Blazers committed a total of 47 errors against their opponent’s 34, that almost cost them another game.
Set scores: (18-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-22)
