The Lyceum Pirates succumbed to the Blazers in yesterday’s NCAA Men’s and Women’s Volleyball games.
The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Men’s and Women’s Volleyball teams outlasted the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Pirates in a thrilling sweep for the men’s and a five-set match (2-3) for the women’s in the 93rd Season of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Volleyball tournament yesterday, January 11, at Filoil Flying V Centre, San Juan.
As the Lady Blazers took their time adjusting to their new plays, it almost cost them a game after falling short on the first two sets to the Lady Pirates. Unsatisfied with their performance, the ladies in green and white eventually found their momentum in the third set, keeping their opponent’s score at bay while they took control of the remaining sets and finally sealing the game (22-25, 23-25, 25-14, 25-13, 15-10).
Transferee Klarisa Abriam led the Lady Blazers with 18 markers, 17 of which are from spikes alone, together with her co-transferee Marites Pablo, who also added 12 marker points for the team. Veterans Rachel Austero and Ranya Musa also tallied 16 and 11 points respectively by the end of the game.
Meanwhile, the men’s team swept the Pirates in straight sets (25-18, 25-22, 25-19).
Isaah Arda lead the Taft squad with 15 point, along with Owen Bacani’s 12 points, 11 of which are from attacks alone.
Now with both a 2-0 win-loss record, the Blazers men’s and women’s volleyball team will be able to continue their winning streak as they face the San Beda College (SBC) Red Lions next Tuesday, Jan. 16, at the Arena, San Juan.
