The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde men’s and women’s volleyball teams eliminated the Mapua Cardinals with a back-to-back sweep.
Hungry to secure themselves a semi-finals slot in NCAA Season 93 Volleyball, the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) men’s and women’s teams finished the listless Mapua University (MU) Cardinals in straights sets, eliminating them fully in the race for the title yesterday, February 1, at the Filoil Flying V Centre, San Juan.
Fresh from their triumph against the Arellano University (AU) Chiefs, the Lady Blazers found themselves one step closer to having a slot for the semi-finals as they finished off the Lady Cardinals in straight sets (25-18, 25-15, 25-17), leaving their opponent to another winless season.
The ladies in green and white found their offense through veterans Rachel Austero and Ranya Musa who supplied 12 and 10 points respectively for the Taft squad. Today’s win improved the Blazers standings to a 5-3 win-loss record, and a possible clinching match to secure a semis slot.
Meanwhile, after a crucial loss against the Arellano University Chiefs in their previous game, the Blazers redeemed themselves quickly after sweeping the Cardinals in close sets (25-23, 25-23, 25-21), improving Benilde’s standing to a 6-2 record.
Despite the pressure of being the defending champion, the Taft squad managed to win the game against the Cardinals and secured the final slot for the semi-finals. Team captain Isaah Arda once again led the Blazers with 10 attack points and two blocks, alongside with Jethro Orian and Anthony Bautista who also earned 10 markers each.
While the Lady Blazers’ next game is yet to be determined when, catch the men’s team next Tuesday, February 6, as they face the University of Perpetual Help System Dalta (UPHSD) Altas (7-0) for the semi-finals match at the Filoil Flying V Centre, San Juan.
