Instead of cutting the budget for scholarships, Center for Sports Development (CSD) Director Stephen Fernandez stated that the College suspended the acceptance of new recruits, and assured around 280 Benildean athletes in 17 sports they will retain their scholarship grants for Academic Year 2020-2021.

In an interview with The Benildean, Fernandez stated that Benilde is committed to its current athletes. Despite taking out the events of some colleges and universities due to the pandemic’s impact, the College assures there are no cuts nor changes in the Athletic Recruit Grants (ARG), the College’s scholarship for athletes.

With only four confirmed sports for NCAA Season 96, he guaranteed the athletes who will not compete for the next season will also receive scholarship grants for the next school year.

Pag-aaral pa rin ang priority sa ngayon, habang hindi pa allowed ‘yung events,” he said.

Despite the physical distances due to health protocols, the athletes still continue their training online in preparation for the upcoming season. Although many of the athletes are currently in their hometowns, CSD continues to keep in touch with them.

Fernandez also discussed the possibility of sports events with an online platform to be included in the next season. As of now, these events are still open for discussion and approval of the league’s Management Committee and Policy Board.

Notably, with the termination of several events due to the COVID-19 pandemic, NCAA will not award a general championship for Season 95.
