NCAA 96: Benilde jins hailed overall champions in men’s, women’s divisions of speed kicking


After weeks of competing in NCAA Season 96’s Taekwondo speed kicking events, the Blazers triumphed as the overall champion for both men’s and women’s division.

The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Blazers kicked off the season as the overall champions in both Men’s and Women’s Divisions of Speed Kicking earlier today, July 5, on GMA’s GTV. 

After conquering with five gold, three silver, and one bronze medals, the Blazers were declared the overall champions for the men’s division of the speed kicking event. Coming in second place is San Beda University (SBU) Red Jins while Arellano University (AU) Chiefs settled in third place.

Meanwhile, the Lady Blazers notched four gold, three silver, and three bronze finishes, setting their spot as the overall champions for the women’s division. Claiming the second place is Arellano University Lady Chiefs while San Beda University Lady Red Jins landed in third place. 

In a post-event interview with NCAA 96: Rise Up Stronger hosts sports commentator Martin Javier and 2017 Miss Multinational Sophia Senoron, Blazers Taekwondo Team’s Coach Roberto Cruz shared how happy he is with the results which retained the Blazers’ championship in Men’s and Women’s Taekwondo. 

“Maraming maraming salamat, sa team dahil lahat ng hirap na ginawa namin at least nasuklian. [...] Malaking improvement lalo na sa school dahil syempre alam naman natin kung gaano kahirap ngayon especially pandemic ‘no. Hirap talaga but at least nalusutan natin. Nakaka-proud,” Coach Cruz expressed. 

The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 96 Chess tournament will formally begin on Tuesday, July 6, 3:00 pm via GTV.
