This year’s Active Vista International Human Rights Festival presents the “Common Threads Music Sessions,” a series of musical performances that amplifies the call to solidarity and resistance against injustice. Scheduled to broadcast at 8:00 p.m. on Sept. 24, Oct. 2, and Oct. 8一the sessions will be available for everyone to attend on the official Active Vista Facebook page.

Established by DAKILA - Philippine Collective for Modern Heroism, the ninth edition of the AVIHRF aims to underscore the stories of the Philippines’ true history and shed light on shaping the Filipino identity through various screenings, forums, and events. With the overarching theme “Kwento Natin ‘To: Reclaiming our Stories as a Nation,'' AVIHRF provides an avenue for everyone to take part in the movement for social transformation and change.

“Common Threads” seeks to uphold the similar theme of “dancing to our own rhythm” and banding together as one voice. Featuring local musicians and bands such as Filipino folk singer and composer Noel Cabangon, Filipino pop rock band Ang Bandang Shirley, and Filipino indie folk band Munimuni, the sessions aim to foster connection through shared experiences and values.

Moreover, the celebration of AVIHRF 2021 is symbolic in nature. The event began last Sept. 21, on the 49th anniversary of Martial Law in the Philippines, and will end on Oct. 10, the weekend after the filing of candidacy for the 2022 National Elections.

The festival offers a number of engaging activities and discussions that will help strengthen their cause to celebrate human rights and diversity.
