La Salle Dance Company-Folk (LSDC-Folk), the official folk dance company of De La Salle University (DLSU), will spearhead “Alpas: Kultura ng Malaya: The 9th Anniversary Online Dance Concert,” showcasing individual breakthroughs amidst the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, on Sept. 3 on AnimoSpace, and Sept. 4 on Facebook and YouTube.
With culture and arts transcending into the means of self-discovery and survival during these times, LSDC-Folk’s first virtual concert will consist of a myriad of short films about their quest for freedom of the self, their close company, and society.
Guest performers include the official orchestra of DLSU, Lasallian Youth Orchestra, the T’boli tribe of musical performers from South Cotabato Gonò Yè Bong, and the stringed-instrument ensemble Rondallistang Paranaque.
Under the DLSU Culture and Arts Office, LSDC-Folk seeks to promote Filipino heritage to the youth by incorporating contemporary styles to the traditional Philippine dances. Along with their active representation on the contemporary issues involving the Filipino indigenous community, they hope to inspire audiences with the love and pride for one’s own culture.
