Coach Charles Tiu is the newly appointed head coach of Benilde Blazers’ men’s basketball team, replacing coach Ty Tang for the upcoming NCAA Season 97 earlier next year.

On Dec. 2, the Center for Sports Development (CSD) announced the promotion of Mr. Charles Tiu as the Blazers Men’s Basketball Team Head Coach. He was formerly the Assistant Coach under the leadership of outgoing Head Coach Tyrone ‘Ty’ Tang for five years.

“We are looking forward to making it back to the Final Four after a couple of decades of waiting,” Tiu mentioned in a statement released by the CSD upon his appointment. He also said their preparations for the forthcoming season will start once face-to-face training is already allowed.

Coach Tiu is an experienced fit as he has won titles as the head coach of Mighty Sports in the 2019 Jones Cup in Taiwan and the 2020 Dubai International Basketball Championship. He has also been the Nueva Ecija Rice Vanguards head coach in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League and recently stepped down from his position as he intended to focus on serving as one of Meralco Bolts’ coaching staff in the Philippine Basketball Association (PBA).

Not too far from the basketball court, Coach Charles, who is the brother of retired PBA player and former Ateneo de Manila University Blue Eagle Chris Tiu, has also worked for CNN Philippines as a sportscaster and in PBA Rush as an analyst.
