Ranging from art, music, and food, Art in the Park 2024 gathered art enthusiasts and passersby alike to celebrate a fun-filled Sunday on Mar. 17 as they enjoyed the space overflowing with carefully curated art pieces and creative activities at the Jaime Velasquez Park in Salcedo Village, Makati.
Art in the Park, established in 2006, is a renowned event that notably benefits the Museum Foundation of the Philippines, supporting the National Museum with its diverse programs and projects. Organized by Philippine Art Events, Inc., the event featured 60 artists from different backgrounds, including established galleries, emerging art collectives, independent spaces, and creative student groups.
A fusion for all to enjoy
From pottery to jewelry, paintings to furniture pieces, Art in the Park had something for everyone, suiting the unique tastes of all the event-goers. This year’s rendition of the event is the second consecutive edition to be held in person following the pandemic.
To accompany event-goers, music from solo guitarist Soulful Mood further elevated the art-filled atmosphere throughout the day, which was followed by a performance of the OPM band Any Name’s Okay in the evening. A show by FIFTH WALL, which boasts itself as the Philippines’ leading international movement platform, captivated the crowd with a dance performance during the afternoon.
Aside from these, booths for food and drinks lined the outskirts of the park offering a myriad of choices for snacks and refreshments. For the more adventurous event-goers, various booths offered a range of alcoholic drinks from beer to cocktails to be enjoyed alone or alongside the different food options available.
The event showcased a variety of captivating exhibits, each contributing to the vibrant atmosphere of the night. Among them was "The Primacy of Consciousness," an intriguing piece by artist, musician, and programmer Jon Deniega, which garnered significant attention.
Another interactive exhibit, "Someday We’ll Be Encased in Amber" by Pepe Delfin, commanded the center of the park, inviting passers-by to engage with the artwork and assert their presence within it. Additionally, a special exhibition tent housed works by notable artists like abstract artists Delfin, Clarence Chun, as well as multimedia artist Demi Padua, offering a diverse array of artistic perspectives for attendees to explore.
Architects-artists-educators from Benilde Architecture Janeil Arlegui, Carlo Martinez, Miguel Ordono under Urban Sketchers Manila, and Walther Ocampo, Regina Morales, and Gab Brioso, including ID112 Architecture graduate Robin Ravago, under The Authenticity Zero Collective showcased their works in their respective booths. ID122 Industrial Design student Jadon Kilayko’s pieces were also featured under the Orange Project gallery booth.
A pursuit for all
Art in the Park continues to champion itself as an accessible avenue for artists and art enthusiasts alike, maintaining a non-intimidating aura for those who want to dip their toes in the local art scene.
May it be acquainting yourself with the community, having a solo artistic adventure, or simply bonding with family and friends over artsy activities, this diverse and colorful outdoor event continues to allow art to resonate with others on a personal level.
If you missed out on this art-filled Sunday, worry not as Art in the Park is expected to make its annual return next year!
