The Manila International Book Fair (MIBF) makes its grand return to the SMX Convention Center, with a whole schedule of events, sales, and more! Don’t miss out on the MIBF experience as a celebration for the love of books commences on Sept. 11 to 15, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.
The MIBF will continue its 45-year tradition of serving the Filipino readers, beginning on Sept. 11 with a Eucharistic celebration at 9 a.m., followed by the opening ceremonies, including a performance from the Bataan High School for the Arts Lahing Magiting Cultural Ensemble, and a ribbon-cutting ceremony that will mark the beginning of the week-long book fair. A multitude of events, such as book signings and seminars, will happen concurrently, as shoppers and book lovers are able to browse through the thousands of selections in store.
Let the book exhibits begin
Over a hundred exhibitors will be present at this year’s MIBF, including the return of the bookstore giant National Book Store (NBS), among other publishing veterans such as Vibal Publishing, Adarna House, and OMF Literature. Other beloved exhibitors of the book fair such as Fully Booked, PSICOM Publishing, Inc., and Komiket, Inc. will be in attendance, each with their own respective events and promos.
Free entrance passes to the book fair are available for printing through the different exhibitors, providing a quicker way for patrons to enter. Freebies and deals for the whole week, such as from Pilot Pens Philippines and Artline Philippines, are also plentiful throughout the various stalls around.
What to look out for
With book launches and signings abound, the MIBF has a lot in store for newcomers and regulars alike. New titles from Skyward Publishing, 8 Letters Bookstore and Publishing, Anvil Publishing, and the like will be found lining the shelves of their stalls. Book signings hosted by school publishers such as Ateneo de Manila University Press and University of the Philippines Press will also be present on select dates.
The fun doesn’t end there! Seminars, such as LolaKwentoSera Book Publishing’s Don’t Lose Your Marbles: Mental Health Support for Teachers and School Personnel and Milflores Publishing, Inc.’s The Art & Science of Eating, and awarding ceremonies, such as the Cardinal Sin Catholic Book Awards organized by the Asian Catholic Communicators, Inc. (ACCI) and the Gintong Aklat Awards arranged by the Book Development Association of the Philippines (BDAP), are free for MIBF-goers to participate in.
Personalities such as famed Filipino historian Xiao Chua and decorated writer and National Artist for Film and Broadcast Arts Mr. Ricky Lee are also present at MIBF for their respective seminars and book signings.
The Manila International Book Fair takes pride in its extensive selection of titles, wide and abundant range of promos and deals, and the loyalty of people who await the return of the book fair every year.
