The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Blazers took down the Colegio De San Juan De Letrán (CSJL) Knights, 83-78, extending their perfect run in the second round of #NCAA100 on Nov. 8 at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.
The Blazers had an unfavorable start as the Knights opened the game with a 10-0 run with Jimboy Estrada, Paolo Javillonar, and Jace Miller dictating the rhythm of the Muralla Squad. Blazers’ Allen Liwag and Tony Ynot responded with a counterattack to catch the Knights off their footing. However, the Taft Squad was unsuccessful as the Knights held onto their lead, 15-27.
Miller kept the Knights’ defenses up, however, MVP candidate Allen Liwag went into titan mode to secure the lead for Taft, 36-35. The green and white team’s Justine Sanchez and Ian Torres sent a back-to-back bombardment of the ring to secure an advantage, 47-37.
The third quarter witnessed a cold Letran squad as they lost track of their rhythm, handing over multiple possessions to the Blazers. Roger Ondoa took down Intramuros’ walls by launching multiple attacks from the baseline to secure another quarter for the Taft Squad, 62-54.
Vince Cuajao along with Estrada and Javillonar launched a final offensive run for the Knights at the paint as they attempted to make a comeback. However, the towering advantage of Liwag and the one-two punch brought by Torres and Sanchez became too much for the Knights as the Blazers hammered the final nail in the coffin, 83-78.
Sanchez was hailed as the player of the game with 16 points, 6 rebounds, 4 assists, and 2 steals, while Liwag was the top scorer with 20 points, 8 rebounds, 3 assists, 2 blocks, and a steal.
The Blazers will face the Mapua University (MU) Cardinals tomorrow, Nov. 10, at the same venue with a live telecast on GTV, the Heart of Asia, and the NCAA Philippines Facebook and Youtube pages.
