The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Blazers and Lady Blazers swept the San Sebastian College-Recoletos (SSC-R) Golden Stags and Lady Stags, both 3-0, today, May 3, at the FilOil EcoOil Centre in San Juan City.

Momentum sided with the Golden Stags as the Benilde Blazers chased their tail at the beginning of the first set. After tying the score at 15-15, Rocky Motol and Jacob Herrera spearheaded a 6-0 run for the men in green and white to secure a 1-0 advantage, 25-19.

The second frame was a see-saw match all throughout as Kyle Villamor led the Recto squad to find their footing. Ultimately, a block by Motol and an error by the Golden Stags allowed the Blazers to escape, 29-27. The Taft squad never looked back as they finished business by commanding the final set, 25-19.

Immediately after, the Lady Blazers and Lady Stags followed suit as they brought on the heat in a back-and-forth battle. However, the ladies in green and white, anchored by Zamantha Nolasco, narrowly escaped their opponent, 25-23.

The second set quickly flew as the Taft squad outplayed the Lady Stags on all fronts, 25-9. The final frame played out similarly to the opening set as the Recto squad bounced back courtesy of Tina Marasigan and Kath Santos, but the Lady Blazers closed out the game, 25-23.

Motol powered the Blazers with 16 points and 22 excellent receptions, while Nolasco led the Lady Blazers with 16 points and 5 blocks.

The Benilde Blazers and Lady Blazers will face the San Beda University (SBU) Red Spikers on May 17 with a live telecast on Heart of Asia and the NCAA Philippines Facebook and YouTube pages.
