Celebrate pride beyond June with these queer art events

Express yourself freely in every hue and art medium.

By Williane Tobias | Friday, 4 July 2025

Celebrating pride comes in many different forms: from rallies to film screenings, to spending the day with your partner, there’s no one size fits all event. The celebration doesn’t end when June ends however: this July, attend galleries, buy at art markets, and view film screenings wherein queer stories can be shared and experienced.

Many queer people express themselves through the medium of art. A place where imagination is boundless, an escape from the restrictions put on them by society. The LGBTQIA+ community is filled with creatives, amplifying their community in film, music, graphic design and the like. Art events serve as a way to support these creatives, engage with their work and hold discussions within the community.

Paint the town rainbow with these art-focused pride events!

Don’t Tell Nanay!, a Filipino artist collective, is launching the second volume “I LIVE!”, a zine focused on queer lives and their experiences in the workplace on July 5, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. With insights from queer individuals with a diverse set of professions and careers, it opens discussions of the SOGIE bill and how it affects those in the workforce. Petals & Playgrounds exhibition

[X]

An upcoming installation in the UP Fine Arts gallery from July 11 to Aug. 8, the exhibition acts as a collective archive of how queerness is expressed during childhood and how it is remembered. Through old photos and short anecdotes, the exhibit will reflect the different experiences and feelings of queer people, connecting their past selves to their present.

Vuhklaan sa Kalawakwahn

[X]

The biggest Pride art show in the country, Vuhklaan sa Kalawakwahn is a group art exhibition by more than 100 LGBTQIA+ artists. The show is presented by artist Garapata (Dex Fernandez) and curated by drag artists Pura Luka Vega and Superstarlet XXX. Included in the lineup are Benildean alumni Santi Obcena, a renowned fashion designer, and Ricardo Yan, a photographer and DJ.

The exhibit explores identity and self-expression, and aims to spread the message that LGBTQIA+ people have always existed through artists’ self portraits in various art media. It opened on June 14 and will be open until July 12 at the Casa Bella Bldg., Don A. Roces Ave, Quezon City.

As pride month comes to a close, let’s not forget to uplift LGBTQIA+ voices in the works they do: whether that’s paintings, films, animation or fashion, their art is personal and reflects their experiences. These galleries, film screenings and artworks show that queer creators are here to stay and take up space—that they deserve to love and be seen loudly all year round.
