#VLeague 2025: Benilde Blazers come up short vs DLSU in Battle of Taft

The #BenildeBlazers failed to force a deciding fifth set in a thrilling matchup against the DLSU Green Spikers.

The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Benilde Blazers collapsed against the De La Salle University (DLSU) Green Spikers, 1-3, at the V-League 2025 Collegiate Challenge Conference on Aug. 17 at the Paco Arena in Manila City.

The Green Spikers kicked off the first set with momentum on their side, 21-25. When things seemed to remain on track for DLSU with a seven-point lead at 8-15, Benilde quickly took advantage of their opponent’s collapse to snatch the second set and even the game, 29-27.

The third set was action-packed as both squads competed in a back-and-forth affair. The Green Spikers rallied behind Chris Hernandez, Rui Ventura, and Issa Ousseini. Across the net, reigning ROTY-MVP Rocky Motol and Raymark Betco took charge for the Blazers. However, when Benilde arrived at set point with a three-point cushion, Ventura and Eugene Gloria quickly regained control of the match to reclaim the lead, 29-31.

Momentum once again sided with the DLSU squad, 17-21. However, a block by Mark Macagaling put Benilde back within striking distance at 19-21. Just when the Blazers were on the verge of a comeback, back-to-back errors brought the Green Spikers to match point as team captain JJ Rodriguez sealed the victory, 21-25.

The Benilde Blazers aim to secure their first win against the Ateneo De Manila University (ADMU) Blue Eagles on Aug. 24 at the same venue with a live telecast on V-League’s official website, Facebook, and YouTube pages.
