The De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Benilde Blazers and Lady Blazers continued their winning ways following their third consecutive victory against the Jose Rizal University (JRU) Heavy Bombers and Lady Bombers respectively, both 3-0, today, Feb. 3, at the San Andres Gym, Manila City.
The Benilde Blazers wasted no time asserting themselves against the Heavy Bombers, taking the court with confidence from the opening serve. The Taft squad struck first behind reigning MVP Rocky Motol and John Austero to draw first blood, 1-0. Riding their momentum, the Blazers kept their foot on the gas, controlling the tempo the rest of the way. The men donning green and white shut down any hopes of a JRU comeback to seal a straight-sets victory, 3-0.
Meanwhile, the Lady Blazers were next to grace the court against the Lady Bombers and quickly showed why they are reigning champions. Behind the steady presence of Zam Nolasco and Chenae Basarte, the Taft squad claimed a dominant 1-0 lead.
The Lady Bombers found themselves leading with as much as six points in the second set as Czarina Ramos spearheaded their attack. However, the Mandaluyong squad lost their momentum as the ladies donning green and white kept their composure to snatch the set, 2-0. The Lady Blazers returned to their regular programming and claimed the final set for a clean sweep, 3-0.
Motol notched 12 points, while Nolasco tallied 20 points to earn the Player of the Game honors.
The Benilde Blazers and Lady Blazers will face the Arellano University (AU) Chiefs on Feb. 7 at the same venue with a live telecast on Heart of Asia and the NCAA Philippines Facebook and YouTube pages.
