The Student Publications Unit (SPU), composed of The Benildean Press Corps (BPC) and Ad Astra, garnered multiple recognitions at the 10th Campus Press Awards held during The Spectrum Fellowship from May 6 to 8 at Nature’s Village Resort, Bacolod City.

The Spectrum Fellowship, hosted by The Spectrum from the University of St. La Salle, is a biennial gathering of campus journalists. This year’s theme was anchored on “BALANGAY: Ilayag and Kuwento, Ihatid ang Tao,” where 16 college publications nationwide competed for various awards.

The three-day program combined plenary sessions on campus journalism, development communication, and marginalized storytelling with specialized parallel discussions on ecopoetry, illustration, and photojournalism. Participants also took part in community immersion initiatives involving different local sectors.

The awarding ceremony, held on the final day of the event, honored various campus publications and student journalists from across the country.

Under the major awards category, Ad Astra secured 3rd Place for Best Magazine and 1st Place for Best Magazine Layout. Meanwhile, BPC earned 2nd Place for Best Literary Folio.

BPC also earned several categories under the minor award division, taking home 1st Place for Best Editorial, Best Community Story, and Best Community Photo. In addition, the organization garnered 2nd Place for Best Facebook Page and 3rd Place for Best Editorial Cartoon.

Meanwhile, Ad Astra received additional recognitions for its community-centered storytelling and visual journalism, securing 2nd Place Best Community Story and Community Photo.

The fellowship highlighted journalism as a vessel for people from all walks of life, carrying stories that are shaped by purpose, progress, and community while championing the power of community engagement, critical discourse, and visual storytelling.
