The Benildean Press Corps (BPC), De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s official student-journalists’ organization, garnered three nominations for the 48th Catholic Mass Media Awards (CMMA), which was announced on Sept. 29 through their official Facebook page.
The 48th CMMA, themed “Preserving Human Voices and Faces,” recognized students, individuals, and institutions as finalists for their entries in various media programs and outlets. Among the nominations, BPC is considered for the Best Student Organ, Best Literary Publication, and Best TV Production under the collegiate categories.
The CMMA Foundation was established in 1978 by the Catholic Church in the Philippines to recognize excellence in media rooted in truth, human dignity, and Christian values. The foundation has honored local media practitioners that promote moral responsibility, social awareness, and the common good—encouraging remarkable and responsible storytelling and communication.
BPC’s magazine-journal The Benildean: Explicit was nominated for Best Student Organ along with The CSU Communicator-Magazine (Mason) (Cagayan State University-Andrews), Inter Nos (University of Santo Tomas [UST] Ecclesiastical Faculties), Bakas: The Blaze Magazine (Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology), Pingkian: The Axis Magazine Status Quo (Batangas State University, The National Engineering University, Alangilan Campus), The Augustinian Mirror (University of San Agustin-Iloilo), and The Guilds Magazine (Bataan Peninsula State University-Main Campus).
The Benildean: Explicit focused on exposing hidden truths on pressing and emerging societal issues in the Philippines such as exploitation, abuse, and discrimination, through relevant areas such as news, community and culture, lifestyle and entertainment, and science and technology. It also called for change, accountability, and collective action by speaking out against silence and injustice.
Meanwhile, BPC’s literary folio, Shades of Gray: Daybreak, was selected as a contender for the Best Literary Publication along with Red Ink 2026: “Silakbo” (San Beda University), Speculum (University of Rizal System - Binangonan), Manong, Para Po!: The Blaze Literary Folio (Nueva Ecija University of Science and Technology), Tanglaw: Mirage Phoenix Literary Folio (Lyceum of the Philippines - Batangas), Anik-anik: The Axis Literary Folio (Batangas State University, The National Engineering University, Alangilan Campus), and Palabas: The Guilds Literary Folio 2025-2026 (Bataan Peninsula State University - Main Campus).
Shades of Gray: Daybreak collated creative writings from the college’s student body, ranging from poetry, short stories, and other forms of literary works that encapsulated the theme of hope and relief amidst sorrow and hardships.
Furthermore, BPC’s “Indigenous Peoples Month Batanes Video” received a nomination for Best TV Production, which highlighted the identity and misrepresentation of the Ivatans, their resiliency, and the bayanihan engrained in their culture. Entries from other schools include “What Lilies Beneath” (UST Angelicum College Inc.) and “Ang Huling Huli” (The Final Harvest (Faith Colleges).
BPC is set to return to the 48th CMMA after failing to secure a win from the 47th iteration, following the previous haul of Best Student Organ, Best Literary Publication, and Best Student Short Film awards in the 46th CMMA in 2024.
