To bring a project of extraordinary authenticity to wider audience, De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde, together with Director Gabriel Fernandez, ushers Silver Jubilee film Mana to national cinemas.
Set in an unnamed city in Negros Occidental, Mana is told through the eyes of the Villareal siblings, whose lives are stalemated and brought to tension when forced to deal with the inevitable death of their mother, and the inheritance she leaves. A film centered on prevalent aspects of Philippine culture, it conjures up themes of political dynasties, the value of family, and power struggles.
“It was presented very creatively which is just down the line of what Benilde is all about”
“The movie is a political-suspense-thriller,” shared Center for Linkages and Advancement Director, Mr. Cesar de Larrazabal, who also played a minor role in the film.
The film has also caught attention of outside viewers. “Mana is indie film at its best,” wrote Inquirer Lifestyle writer Pablo Tariman in his article “Film with amazing grace and old-world charm”.
Part of the cast is seven of the country’s most well-known actors in his movie, namely Tetchie Agbayani, Fides Cuyugan-Asensio, Cherie Gil, Mark Gil, Ricky Davao, Jaime Fabregas and Epy Quizon.
The film was completed in less than a year, by Benildeans students—alumni and undergraduates—and faculty alike.
“It was presented very creatively which is just down the line of what Benilde is all about,” said Mr. de Larrazabal.
Mana is set to invade selected SM Cinemas on the 19th of February 2014.
