Christia Sanz, a junior Information Systems student, and Albin Diony Catipay, sophomore Computer Applications student, were two of the 134 chosen GSAs out of over 1,000 applicants in the Southeast Asia region.

As GSAs, they are tasked to provide information on innovative Google products, plan and host events that promote innovation, collaboration, and productivity on campuses, and help the said company in understanding the culture of a college or university. Their term as student ambassadors will last for a year and will end by May 2015.

To be chosen as a GSA, one must submit the required application forms and documents online along with a 30-second video of self description. After a month, an acceptance e-mail will be sent to the chosen students.

“I am overwhelmed with joy knowing that out of thousands of applications from different universities, Google has seen potential in me as they approved my application of becoming a GSA,” Sanz shared. “On the other hand, I am also nervous because we all know that it’s Google. I don’t want to disappoint them for choosing me as their student ambassador.”

Meanwhile, Catipay considers being a GSA as becoming “a person capable of sharing beneficial knowledge for the students through the help of Google.”

They also attended the Philippine hosted Google Student Ambassador’s Summit held at Raddisson Blu Hotel in Cebu last May 29 to June 2. GSAs from Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Vietnam also attended the event. The summit aimed at giving them new learning experiences and meeting new people from different cultures.
