Several versions of a text message circulated around the College at around 11:00 a.m. today, July 3, saying that a certain ‘they’ have planted bombs around the campuses and at 11:05, a lot will be injured. The College’s Center for Emergency Management, Safety and Security (CEMSS), however, dismissed the threat saying that it was just a hoax.

“CEMSS has intensified its inspection procedures in all our campuses to ensure the protection of every Benildean,” said CEMSS director Brigadier General Lito S. Tabangcura in their official statement.

CEMSS is currently working with Station 9 of the Manila Police Department to investigate the source of the said text message.

Security at entrance had been tightened and several K9 units were deployed to ensure the safety and security of the whole Benildean community.

Aside from asking everyone to cooperate with the safety measures, CEMSS also “urges everyone to remain calm as CEMSS is on top of the matter”.

Natatakot ako dahil s’yempre nate-threaten ‘yung buhay ko. Hindi ko din kasi alam kung totoo ‘yung bomb threat o hindi,” shared Bernadette Olaño, second year BS-HRIM student.

CEMSS instructs that if anyone receives any bomb threats or messages of this nature in the future, please contact them immediately at 230 5100 local 1911 (Taft), 2911 (AKIC) or 3911 (SDA).

Several bomb scares also hit other universities such as University of Santo Tomas and Ateneo de Manila University some time last year, but both threats were also considered hoaxes by authorities.
