The August showers have once again hit our streets—the air is cold and the pavements are damp, and the lazy cuddle weather may be taking a toll on our drive to get out of the house. Here are a few hot events you should catch this August that will surely change your mind about having rain on your parade.

Cinemalaya 2014

Cinemalaya’s 10th year celebration is once again a testament to the rising industry of Philippine cinema, shining light on our country’s most talented emerging film makers, actors, and screenwriters. Catch it from August 1 to 10 at the Cultural Center of the Philippines and selected Ayala cinemas, including Trinoma, Greenbelt, Alabang Town Center and Ayala Fairview Terraces. MET Open 2014

The Metropolitan Museum of Manila is opening its doors to all new and aspiring artists for a benefit exhibit. The Met Open 2014 is invitation to all artists looking to have the their works curated by this top Philippine museum. Call for digital entries is until August 16 only. Project Philippines performance workshop

Project Philippines is holding a string of workshops that seek to teach and expand art forms, specifically movement, music and visual art. It will be held at the Ayala Museum on August 15, from 2 to 6 p.m. Contact the Ayala Museum at 759-8288 to register.

10th Global Pinoy Bazaar

A celebration of Philippine art, music, travel, technology, food, fashion, design, and many more, the 10th Global Pinoy Bazaar is the perfect place to find and showcase proudly Filipino brands. Organized annually by Yabang Pinoy, this year’s bazaar will be held at the World Trade Center from August 22 to 24.

World Food Expo (WOFEX) 2014

A food bazaar mania—the WOFEX once again brings us the best and widest array of food and beverage. To be held from August 6 to 9 simultaneously at the SMX Convention Center and the World Trade Center, the WOFEX offers the best platform for food enthusiasts to see and be seen. Those on diets are strictly prohibited.

8th International Silent Film Festival

A film festival showcasing silent movies accompanied by live music by local and foreign artists, the 8th International Silent Film Festival is a great alternative to your usual big screen experience. Be captivated this August 28 to 31 at the Shangri-La Plaza Mall Cineplex.

Cosplay Fashion Run

You read it right! Arrive as your favourite characters, strut down the runway, and run the miles in this big (and strangely intriguing!) event. Catch the Cosplay Fashion Run this August 23 at the Amoranto Stadium and August 24 at the Quezon Memorial Circle and experience a cosplay event like no other.

Bazooka Rocks III

Now on its third installment, the Philippine’s first indoor music festival is back, featuring artists like Save the Day, The Used, Taking Back Sunday, You Me at Six, and many more on August 30 and 31 at the SMX Convention Center.
