ICON Manila to empower at Benilde


We’re teaming up with ICON Manila to bring you the upcoming International Entertainment Design Conference happening later this June!

Aiming to expound design processes for animation, film, games, advertising, fine arts, and other visual media forms to the practitioners and enthusiasts alike, International Conferences (ICON) Manila introduces the return of International Entertainment Design Conference (IEDC) this 2015. Now on its second year, the said conference will be held at De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde’s (DLS-CSB) School of Design and Arts (SDA) Building on June 26 and 27.

The event contains series of talks, demonstrations, and portfolio preparation handled by five conference speakers who have proven themselves in their fields of expertise. Film concept designer and digital sculptor Ben Mauro, for instance, will be tackling Concept Design and Digital Sculpture for Film. He has worked at companies like Weta Workshop, Lucasfilm, Rhythm & Hues, and Sony Pictures Animation and has even contributed to “The Hobbit Trilogy,” “Lucy,” “Elysium,” “Precinct 114,” and “Hotel Transylvania.

Meanwhile, game cinematics concept designer Charles Lee will be talking on Cinematics Game Design Techniques. His work background includes Blizzard Entertainment, EA Games, IMAGI, Sony Computer Entertainment, Obsidian, Red 5 Studio, and Spark Unlimited. In addition to that, his collaborations include “World of Warcraft,” “Starcraft 2: Void of Legacy,” “Overwatch,” “Lost Planet 3,” “Medal of Honor,” and “God of War.”

Another speaker will be Animation Production Designer and Art Director Noelle Triaureau, giving a talk on Art Directing Colors for Animated Film. Working with Sony Pictures Animation and Sony Imageworks also gave her the opportunity to work with projects like the latest release of the Smurfs movie franchise which is to be released this 2016, “Hotel Transylvania,” “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs,” and “Surf’s Up.”
John Nevarez will then be talking about Concept Design Crossing over Traditional and Digital Media. Being an animation environment and character designer, Nevarez has worked with Rovio Animation Studios, Pixar Animation Studio, IMAGI, Disney Toon Studio, and Walt Disney Television Animation. Among his many collaborations are “Angry Birds” (a film adaptation coming in 2016 based on the similarly-titled hit mobile game), “Monsters University,” “Cars 2,” “Astro Boy,” “Tinker Bell,” and “Kim Possible.”

Gracing the event would be animation environment designer and visual developer Armand Serrano. Apart from being one of the event’s organizers, he will also be talking about Understanding the Visual Structure and Lighting and Tonal Value in Animation. Having worked at Disney Animation Studio, Sony Pictures Animation, Marvel Production and Hanna Barbera Studio, he was able to contribute to projects like “Big Hero 6,” “Hotel Transylvania,” “Cloudy With A Chance of Meatballs,” “Lilo & Stitch,” and “Mulan.”

Participants of this event are allowed to bring their own digital tablets or drawing materials during the workshop. E-Certificates of Participation will also be given to the audience after the conference. Proceeds of this event will go to humanitarian and medical missions in the Philippines.

According to Serrano, their “impressive line-up of top industry leaders will bring forth an informative and exciting event which will impart new ideas that will ultimately strengthen Asia’s impact on the industry.”

Different rates are offered by the organizers for the event. Early Bird rates are also offered which was extended until June 15. Rate choices vary from VIP package, individual, group and student rates. Payments can be made via bank deposit or credit card.

The VIP package is limited to 25 guests, but includes access to the VIP Dinner with the conference speakers by the night of June 24, a two-day conference and workshop access together with the Portfolio Review, VIP check-in and seating, and free refreshments during the event.
