After clinching four championship bouts last year, the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Blazers sets a new record, grabbed a total of nine trophies in various sport events in the recently concluded 20th Philippine University Games (UNIGAMES) last October 22-30, hosted by the University of St. La Salle, Bacolod.
The Blazers started their monumental campaign in the UNIGAMES after nabbing a podium finish on the Chess tournament, Men’s Badminton, Men’s and Women’s Lawn Tennis, Men’s Table Tennis, and Women’s Swimming events. “I’m very proud of the performance of each athlete and all the teams who competed. Whether it was their pre-season event or post-season, binuhos talaga nila for our school,” says Center for Sports Development (CSD) director Stephen Fernandez. “We in the CSD are very proud for the efforts to carry the name of CSB in the UNIGAMES,” he added.
The Men’s Basketball team ends their title drought after defeating HerCor College (70-56) in the championship match. While the Men’s and Women’s Taekwondo Team has proven their successful program after winning their 6-peat and 5-peat titles.
After a successful performance in the UNIGAMES, the Blazers will focus on keeping the momentum swinging on the second half of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. “For the games that will compete this November until February next year, na-gauge nila yung kakayahan nila dito. Naging maganda para makita natin kung ano pa ang dapat nating paghandaan in going to the second half of the NCAA season,” Mr. Fernandez concludes.
