The renovated cafeteria at the Taft Campus of the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) officially opened its doors to the Benildean community during the grand re-opening yesterday after eight months of construction work.

The expansion and redesign project of the cafeteria started in September 2016 and ended last April under the supervision of the Center for Logistics and Property Management (CLPM). Meanwhile, the Greenway lobby was used ad hoc as a cafeteria for the Taft Campus.

“All-in-one eatery”

Ray Lomibao, senior audit manager of CLPM and one of the project heads, said the new cafeteria will provide everything for the students so that they won’t have to go out just to eat a specific cuisine. This also promotes safety of the students, he added.

“From there (the previous temporary cafeteria), the students can expect a lot of changes. Before, there were only Asian and Filipino cuisine. Now, here, we have the Healthy Bites, and international cuisines—Japanese, Mediterranean… We also have the dessert station and just like 7-11, there are grab-and-go food like sandwiches,” Lomibao said.

For the Asian cuisine, Beef Bulalo, Fish Fillet with Tausi, Pork Stew, etc. are available while the international cuisine consists of pastas, Hungarian pork, and Tanigue ala Pobre, to name a few. People who are health-conscious can opt to eat grilled chicken or fish fillet barramundi. Snacks, desserts, and to-go food are also available in the cafeteria.

New payment scheme

Changes in the payment system have been made with prepaid cards now available for faster and hassle-free transactions.

“We will be having a cashless basis for the payment. You will buy a prepaid card and then you can load it. Then you would just tap it at the cashier, but cash is also allowed for those without the card,” Lomibao explained.

These cards are available at the Kitchen City Express located inside the area. The process includes accomplishing and submitting the Pre-Paid Meal Application Form, and loading the card with the amount desired.

In addition, several students pointed out that free coffee is also available for those needing a quick boost, regardless if they made a purchase or not.
