Benildeans rule in one of SE Asia’s biggest game conventions


Eight games were exhibited in the Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit while nine games dominated the finals of the Game On! Challenge 2018.

Game Design and Development (GDD) and Interactive Entertainment and Multimedia Computing (IEMC) students from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde triumphed in the Game On! Challenge 2018 held during the Electronic Sports and Gaming Summit (ESGS) last October 26 to 28 at the SMX Convention Center Manila, Mall of Asia Complex, Pasay City.

 

With nine finalists out of 17, the College dominated the school track of the Game On! Challenge 2018, a game design contest for student and professionals by the Game Development Association of the Philippines (GDAP) held during the ESGS, wherein teams of game developers from top universities compete with each other against odds for the best created video games. GDAP received over 60 videogame submissions and only 17 entries made it to the finals.

The Benildean teams and their respective videogame entries are as follows:

  • “DynoSoar” by Reymart De Mesa, Lian Concepcion, and James Sazon
  • “Sam’s Odd World” by Angelica De Rosas Atienza, Janielle Leyba Francisco, Michael Jefferson Placido Iguban, Kenny Byron Adrales Lin, Raphael Franco Ramirez, and Joshua Fallega Timario
  • “Nutrimania” by Nathaniel SF. Gonzales, Shellina Magarzo, Aien Rustainne M. Mayores, and David Justin B. Pacheco
  • “Flood Runners” by Lance Villafania, Nicolo Arganda, Don Jiao, Geoffrey Buguis, and Jerold Ramos
  • “Periculum” by Brian Earnshaw, David Sison, Abram Tendido, Melvin Agad, and Brian Serioza
  • “Aether” by Javi Arnaldo, Arthur Kyle Estuar, Gaston Dualan, Jaromir Enriquez, and Jae Ener Pedrina
  • “TULAK” by Steven Jan Cadena, Enrico Miguel Hermanos, Ralph Christian Miraflor, and Jhay Ulilang
  • “The Yellow Boat” by Rea Patricia G. Adela, Anton Miguel M. Arcega, Kristine L. Ong, Trixie Ylanan, and Joshua Mari G. Villena
  • “Trouble.Shoot” by Lloyd Dagcutan, Joseph Anonuevo, Marco Rabat, Angelica Cabrera, and Ojay Mendiola

 

In addition, the eight other finalist teams hail from De La Salle University, Far Eastern University, Jose Rizal University, iAcademy, Asia Pacific College, and CIIT Philippines.

 

The awarding ceremony will take place on November, to be announced by GDAP.

Benildean excellence

In addition, GDD and IEMC students also paraded their capstone and thesis projects during ESGS, one of the biggest game conventions in South East Asia.

 

De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde and Gamers Union for Innovation and Leadership Development (GUILD), the professional student organization of GDD students in the College, partnered with ESGS to have the capstone and thesis projects of the graduating GDD and IEMC students exhibited in the summit.

GDAP is a trade association committed towards promoting the interests of the Philippine game development industry. Established in 2007 under former President Gabby Dizon, GDAP is supported by various affiliate member organizations inclusive of a number of schools and universities, game studios, publishers, and retailers.
