Horizons 2019: Coexisting in a world full of differences

“Take part in the search for subtlety in chaos, beauty in tragedy, harmony in difference, and hope in confusion.”

Horizons, the official art and design folio of the students of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), launched its exhibit at the School of Design and Arts Cafeteria yesterday, February 19. With the theme of “Coexistence,” the folio celebrates the beauty in differences, reflected in the works of Benildean artists.

The folio was originally released in December 2018 by the Benildean Press Corps (BPC), Benilde’s official student-journalists’ organization under the Student Publications Office. Meanwhile, the exhibit was done in partnership with the Center for Campus Art (CCA).

CCA Director Ar. Gerry Torres opened the exhibit launch with a few words, emphasizing that digital art will be at the forefront in the coming years in an ever-changing world where technology and art are in perfect harmony.

Meanwhile, according to BPC Publications Coordinator Ms. Dayanara Cudal, the number of art submissions in this year’s folio, compared to last year’s Horizons: Orbis, has increased, which shows the effectivity of the exhibit as a way to reach a wider audience, especially in the Benildean community.

In an interview with Benilde President Br. Dennis Magbanua FSC, the exhibit is a “good opportunity to expand the reach of the publication” with there being a possibility of sharing it to other Lasallian schools and not just Benilde. He also added that the exhibit is a good venue for multimedia artists to showcase their works.

Our graphic arts has improved through the years. We’ve gone away from the Japanese manga style that was very common a few years ago and not so original. This time, with the art that I see, it has become more original, more personal and more adept in terms of using the available software,” the CCA Director said.

I’m very happy to see that we are improving and I’m very excited to see the next installments of Horizons,” he added.

Speaking to the editors behind the folio, Kitty Jardenil and  Isa Hilario, who are BPC’s Creative Director  and Art and Design Editor respectively,  shared that the exhibit’s purpose is to “emphasize contradicting ideas can really still exist in harmony.”

The Horizons: Coexistence exhibit runs from February 20 until May 11, 2019.
