In collaboration with 10 local Filipino artists, UNIQLO Manila’s Global Flagship Store at Glorietta 5 celebrates its first anniversary sale by launching its first #UTme – The Art of The Philippines x Future shirt collection, with one shirt designer hailing from De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde.

Through vibrant colors, enthralling graphics, and modern style of designs, Uniqlo Philippines aims to inspire the nation with optimism in reaching for one’s endeavors.

Benilde’s Multimedia Arts alumna, Isabel Sophia Weber, has become a part of Uniqlo’s #UTme project through an email proposal from an ADC Young Guns award-winner and Manila Illustrator Dan Matutina. With personal experiences, Weber’s work design reflected strokes of motivation as warm as the sun to conquer every day, which others could also relate with.

“Waking up in the morning is never easy, but there’s always got to be a driving force that gets you out of bed. I wanted to convey this moment of ‘fighting spirit’ and the ritual of preparing yourself for the day ahead of you,” Weber said in an interview with The Benildean.

Drowned by doubts in creating a playful feministic style, Weber lacked confidence in joining a pool of talented artists.  “Eventually, after going through these doubts in my head and with my support system, I realized that it’d be a waste to lose this opportunity [if I continue] to [deal with] my negative emotions, ” she added.

With vibrant mix of colors such as orange and yellow, Weber hopes that people will enjoy her personalized design of a high-spirited girl accentuated with fluid shapes around it for the clothing line; leaving the judgment to whoever sees the work.

As a previous art staffer for the Benildean Press Corps, Benilde’s official student-journalists’ organization, Weber also garnered an award of Best in Thesis on her course’s project at Multimedia Arts Capstone Plenary in 2018. Now, Weber works as a freelance artist and a part-time for Works of Art design studio.

Other artists behind the most-awaited designs are Auggie Fontanilla, Manix Abrera, Rob Cham, Mika Bacani, Happy Garaje, Otto Björnik, Soleil Ignacio, Ev Yu, and CMYKa (Myka Arnado).

UNIQLO Manila’s Global Flagship Store First Anniversary Sale runs from September 27 to October 3, 2019.

#UTme shirt collection is now available exclusively at Glorietta 5, Makati City.
