In an announcement to the Benildean community via Benilde mail today, April 17, second term’s (2T) A.Y. 2019-2020 Maximum Retention Policy (MRP) is suspended and its grading system is revised, which will not affect grade-dependent eligibility requirements. New grades, namely AW (Authorized Withdrawal), INC (Incomplete) and REM (Remedial), are introduced and will be effective by the end of April.

The released announcement is the proposal of Benilde Manila and Antipolo Academic Council that is approved by the School Deans and Associate Deans, the Registrar of Benilde Manila and the Provost of Benilde Antipolo.

Given grades for the second term will not affect academic requirements related to Dean’s List, scholarships, Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) computation, and other grade-dependent eligibility.

Under the approved proposal, specifications and guidelines for the second term’s grading system are as follows:

• The final grade point equivalent between 1.0 to 4.0 will be given based on the first nine (9) weeks of classes academic performance, online class participation from March 16 to 21, 2020, and final course requirement submitted.
• Students unable or did not comply with the final course requirement will be given a grade if INC (incomplete).
  • If the course is not a prerequisite, a term will be given to comply with the final course requirement that will serve as the basis for the final grade. Course re-enrollment is unnecessary.
  • Nonetheless, prerequisite courses require the submission of final output by the first week of third term (3T), A.Y. 2019-2020. If not complied, a grade of R will be merited and dropping an enrolled sequential course and re-enroll the pre-requisite course is advised.
• Students who complied with the final course requirement but did not pass nonetheless will be given a grade of REM (Remedial).
  • For non-prerequisite courses, a term will be given to comply with the remedial requirement decided by the faculty, which will serve as the basis for the final grade; 1.0 will be the highest passing grade will be given once submitted. This will not be applicable to students who opted not to submit or were unable to submit the final course requirement.
  • For prerequisite courses, remedial requirements must be submitted by the first week of 3T, A.Y. 2019-2020. A grade of R will be merited and dropping an enrolled sequential course and re-enroll the pre-requisite course is advised if the output is not submitted within the period.
• Students who decide to withdraw the course will be given a grade of AW (Authorized Withdrawal) that will be reflected in the student’s transcript of records. A letter of intention with guardian’s or parents’ consent must be submitted to the faculty through email, Facebook messenger, Viber, delivery couriers, etc. Tuition and/or fee refunds will not be given, if any.
• Students who have been given FDA (Failure Due to Absences) during the midterms will be given a grade of R (Repeat).
  
  

New grades such as INC, REM, and AW will be placed in the system of the Registrar’s Office and Digital Technology Office which will be available by April 30, 2020.

Moreover, rules on Maximum Retention Period (MRP) for the term are suspended as well. A separate announcement will be provided for the most likely postponed graduation ceremonies scheduled in July and October 2020.

“Following the lifting of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) by the government, College operations will resume only when pertinent protocols are established in all campuses, availability of public transportation, inter-province and inter-city borders are open, and on-campus physical distancing measures are in place,” the announcement stated, assuring the Benildean community that their safety will be placed in great importance.
