Benilde wins 1st runner-up in Student Quill’s “School of the Year” for fourth straight year


Out of the five nominees vying for School of the Year, the College secured its place as first runner-up once again, bagged 25 merit and excellence awards, and gained one top award in the prestigious IABC awarding ceremony.

With a total of 26 awards, the De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) won first runner-up in the School of the Year Award for the fourth time in the 8th Philippine Student Quill Awards held yesterday, March 25, via Youtube Live Broadcast. 

Emphasizing on the theme “Arise,” the Philippine Quill Awards Committee highlighted the importance of communication and the connection of the theme in providing communications that uplift in their compilation video, “Words are powerful. It does matter. (...) Words can build or break. They can hurt or inspire. Words can change the world and that is the essence of Arise,” 18th Philippine Quill Awards Chair and One Meralco Foundation President Mr. Jeffrey Tarayao stated.

“As communicators, let’s use this power to make a difference, to shine a light, and be a beacon in the darkest of days,” 8th Philippine Student Quill Awards Chair and COMCO Southeast Asia Regional Integration and Chief Executive Director Mr. Ferdinand Bondoy mentioned.

Due to the pandemic, the International Association of Business Communicators (IABC) made history with its first ever virtual Philippine Quill Awards, which commenced as the first awarding ceremony held online in the recognition program's 18-year run. 

From the 25 Excellence and Merit Awards bestowed upon to DLS-CSB, the Benildean Press Corps, the College’s official student-journalists’ organization, and Ad Astra, the sole organization tasked to create Benilde’s official yearbook, were the two biggest contributors to the College’s win with 11 and 9 individual awards, respectively.

Meanwhile, Benilde’s “Turtales” secured a Top Award out of the five nominees in the Communication Skills division due to its excellence in its awareness campaign highlighting the ecological importance of sea turtles and the urgency to safeguard their habitats while reducing existing threats through creative applications. The Top Award is given to the entry with the highest score among Excellence Awardees per division.

Meanwhile, University of Santo Tomas was hailed School of the Year for the seventh consecutive time whereas Benilde bested second runner-up UST Angelicum College. De La Salle University–Dasmariñas and Far Eastern University were the other schools that were nominated.

Out of 850 submitted entries from the Philippine Quill Awards, only 408 entries professional and student communication projects were awarded by IABC that have exemplified and been in line with the International Gold Quill standards of excellent, effective, and purposeful business communication. 

The Philippine Student Quill Awards is the counterpart of the Philippine Quill Awards given to companies, agencies, institutions, and organizations who have delivered best professional campaigns in business communication. 

The awards are honored in recognition of students who have shown excellent and exemplary communication research, programs, skills, and creative work in the standards set by the IABC Philippines, a global network of communications professionals consisting of 15,500 business communicators in 80 countries.
