Weaving the threads of an ever-changing identity with “Sinulid: Epilogue 20-21”

Don’t miss another round of “Online Sinulid,” showcasing the selected collections of the College’s graduating FDM students, and moving forward in leaps and bounds of evolving Filipino identity on March 19 to 20.

Getting down to local fashion griefs, ID 117 Fashion Design and Merchandising (FDM) students explored the perspective of the evolving Filipino identity concerning heritage, tradition and social and environmental issues in Sinulid: Epilogue 20-21 and the virtual exhibit: “Unconventional Threads.”

Even in this muddled time, the graduating batch of FDM students pushed forward and transported their customary annual graduation fashion show into the virtual world. The organized online event seeks to be an advocacy platform for all students and industry practitioners in the fashion industry—as they hone their talents and crafts for them to prevail and be utilized for good causes.

For a more specific image, this year’s exhibit will stage two types of showcases: the full collection and the art exhibit piece.

For the selected collections, narratives ranging from Philippine traditions, disaster, environmental issues, and cultural fusions were the main inspiration for the looks.

While the art exhibit pieces convey the students’ vision of the “modern Filipino”—through the use of sustainable and unconventional materials and techniques.

The students impeccably crafted grandiose fashion creations at their homes, portraying their own take of the theme. For instance, the country and its citizens’ dimensions were reintroduced in Pamela Maglangbayan, Eunhye Cho, Shanica Sy and Raya Abastillas’ works. Meanwhile, Angela Denise Santos and Sean Carlo Betco capitalized on adaptive fashion and explored it by highlighting the topical issue of femininity and sexuality with their creations.

In partnership with Triple K, Manila Fashion Supplies, Manila Bay Thread Corp., Humble Sustainability, and Beatriz Accessories, the virtual affair itself will present the official launch of the virtual gallery and website, alongside a series of webinars with fashion industry leaders. On the other hand, the main event, Epilogue, will cover the awarding of the top collections.
