In line with the Benilde Red Cross Youth Council’s (BRCYC) #UsapTayo: Mental Health Campaign, the organization is set to launch a new segment titled “Dance the Night Away” on May 22, in partnership with various dance organizations. The event aims to promote mental health by introducing dance as a method of taking care of one’s cognitive wellness.

Extending their months-long #UsapTayo: Mental Health Campaign Initiative, BRCYC continues to provide psychological aid during the pandemic through “Dance the Night Away.” Studies show that one way to improve one’s psychological and emotional wellbeing is through dancing, such that it can become therapeutic to people.

In her study titled “The Power of Dance: How Dance Affects Mental and Emotional Health and Self-Confidence in Young Adults,” Amber Salo of the University of Northern Colorado spoke on the powerful stress-relieving benefits of dance, comparing it to medicine and remedies that can soothe and alleviate anxieties.

The lively event will be headed by different dance artists from Saint Benilde Romançon Dance Company (SBRDC), Company of Ateneo Dancers (Ateneo CADS), and University of Santo Tomas (UST) Extreme A. Stimulating dance movements will be demonstrated by the instructors to help participants express their inner self through physical actions.

Moreover, “Dance the Night Away” aims to boost the cognitive wellness of students amidst the pandemic through Zumba, as well as introduce the benefits of dance to participants.
