Former NCAA 92 MVP and De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde alumnus John Vic De Guzman has been chosen again as captain of the Philippine National Men’s Volleyball Team for the third consecutive year.
De Guzman and the national team are currently undergoing training and preparation in a bubble in Ilocos Norte for the AVC Asian Men’s Club Championship to be held in Thailand, on October 6 to 13, 2021. The team will be competing against countries such as South Korea, Japan, Australia, and China.
Alongside him in the bubble are 2019 Southeast Asian Games teammates Bryan Bagunas, Francis Saura, Ish Polvorosa, Jack Kalingking, Jessie Lopez, Joshua Retamar, Joshua Umandal, Kim Malabunga, Marck Espejo, Mark Alfafara, Rex Intal, and Ricky Marcos.
Added to the new roster are Joeven Dela Vega, JP Bugauan, Kim Dayandante, Lloyd Josafat, Manuel Sumanguid, Nico Almendras, and Ysay Marasigan.
Prior to being the national team’s captain, the 27-year-old athlete played for the Benilde Blazers in the men’s senior division of the National Collegiate Athletic Association where he held the title of NCAA MVP during its 92nd season. He also played for the PLDT Home Fibr Power Hitters club in the Spikers’ Turf.
This July, he won Outstanding Sportsman of the Year in the 3rd Laguna Excellence Awards.
The Men’s National Volleyball Team will once again make its appearance in the AVC Asian Men's Club Championship after their last stint in 2009.
