De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB) Lady Blazer Lucille Cunanan secured the first place finish in the Women’s Heavyweight Division of the Speed Kicking event earlier today, July 5, on GMA’s GTV.

Competing against four fellow taekwondo athletes in the heavyweight division, Lady Blazer Lucille Cunanan did not hesitate to give a strong performance, which garnered 6.475 points and secured her spot in first place.

In Cunanan’s post-event interview with program hosts sports commentator Martin Javier and 2017 Miss Multinational Sophia Senoron, she shared that NCAA Season 96 is her final playing year, and preparing for the speed kicking event was overwhelming.

“We did a lot of adjustments […] syempre we went through face-to-face and then biglang naging speed kicking. Syempre nag-iba rin po ‘yung training and iba sya compared dun sa face-to-face kasi we’re all together practicing,” she explained.

With only a 0.117 score differential, Arellano University’s (AU) Lady Chief Beverly Michelle Bandiola placed second with 6.358 points. Meanwhile, San Beda University’s (SBU) Lady Red Jin Roxanne Candatu claimed third place with 6.083 points.

Finishing last is San Sebastian College-Recoleto’s Micaela Leigh Musngi with a score of 5.942.

The Chess event for the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Season 96 formally begins tomorrow on Tuesday, July 6, 3:00 p.m. via GTV.
