The well-deserved perks of Benildean and Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz


Take a look at what rewards and incentives are in store for the country’s first Olympic gold medalist!

After Benildean and Olympian Hidilyn Diaz bagged the Philippines’ first gold at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics 55kg Women’s Weightlifting division last July 26, several private sectors graced her with numerous incentives worth millions of pesos for her to enjoy.

The Benildean Business Management student is set to receive great benefits and incentives after her historic win. However, her prizes are not tax-free unless private sectors pay for the donor’s tax.

As of writing, Diaz is set to receive the following from several entities:

  • ₱2.5 million - Zamboanga local government unit (LGU) 
  • ₱10 million - Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) through Republic Act 10699, “National Athletes and Coaches Benefits and Incentives Act” signed to law in 2015 by Former President Benigno Aquino III
  • 10 million - Manny V. Pangilinan Sports Foundation
  • ₱10 million - Ramon Ang
  • 3 million - Deputy Speaker of the House Mikee Romero
  • 3 million and a house and lot - Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte
  • 200,000 - Angeles City, Pampanga Mayor Carmelo Lazatin Jr.
  • 5 million and lifetime free fuel - Siklab Atleta Sports Foundation and Phoenix Petroleum Head Dennis Uy
  • 14 million-worth residential condominium unit in Eastwood, Quezon City - Megaworld
  • 4 million-worth house and lot - Century Properties
  • Tagaytay City house and lot - Philippine Olympic Committee President Bambol Tolentino
  • Lifetime free flights - AirAsia Airlines
  • Lifetime 80,000 free miles per year- Philippine Airlines (PAL)
  • Lifetime free breakfast - Kanto Freestyle Breakfast
  • One year supply of Cheesecake Milk Tea - Cha Tuk Chak
  • Lifetime supply of Bamboo Sunglasses - Wodd PH
  • Lifetime supply of rice - Doña Maria Premium Quality Rice

On top of her incentives, Diaz was also promoted from sergeant to staff sergeant by the Philippine Air Force, effective last July 27.
