The Benildean Wushu Queen herself, Agatha Wong, continued to reign in the 31st Southeast Asian (SEA) Games after defending her throne in women’s taijijian on Sunday, May 15, at the Cau Giay Sporting Hall in Hanoi, Vietnam.

A day after falling short from the top spot in taijiquan, the Consular and Diplomatic Affairs (CDA) alumna came back with a stronger form to win the gold in women’s taijijian.

23-year-old Wong was able to score 9.71 points to edge out Vietnamese bets Huyen Tran Thi and Trang Tran Thi who scored 9.70 and 9.69, respectively.

“I’m so thankful,” Wong shared her gratitude upon bagging the gold, admittedly having tempered her expectations after her two-month training in a bubble set-up in Manila.

“We must remember that there’s a pandemic. So yesterday, I was thankful that I got a silver. Even if it was a bronze, I’d still be thankful,” she expressed.

Last Saturday, Wong placed second in her first event, women’s Taolu Taijiquan. She was able to tally a score of 9.69 points, falling short behind the gold medalist Alisya Mellynar of Indonesia who won by 9.71 points.

The Philippine Wushu team will be going home with two golds, two silvers, and five bronze medals.
