With this year’s celebration of National Book Week and Library and Informations Services (LIS) Month, flagship events and activities will be spearheaded by the National Library of the Philippines (NLP), Benilde’s very own Center for Learning Resources (CLR), and libraries nationwide!
LibVOCACY in the National Library
Kicking off Library and Information Services Month (LISM), an opening ceremony was conducted at the NLP Auditorium on Nov. 4 and was also broadcasted online through their Facebook page. For the rest of the month, there will be seminars about empowering libraries through institution, advocacy, and more which will both take place through the same hybrid setup.
There will also be a research conference, an outreach program in Tondo by the LISM Committee, and an exhibit that will be accessible until Nov. 29. These events all occur to rejoice and promote the essential role that libraries play in making information and education accessible and to create deeper connections with more communities.
More information on these activities can be found on the NLP website.
The party is right here!
There is no need to go all the way to NLP to be part of the fun—in line with that, libraries all around the nation, including Benilde’s CLR, have a lineup of fun activities and competitions to participate in for November’s beloved celebration of the nation’s books and libraries.
There is the “#BookLook Fashion Challenge,” a contest of costumes, where you are instructed to do your best dress-ups as your favorite book character or book cover. From witty closet cosplays to full-scale costumes, this is a competition to showcase your creativity and fun through fashion!
Meanwhile, “BookFace Contest: Blend with your Favorite Book!” challenges you to accurately line up your face with that of one on any book cover, creating a captivating “BookFace” photo.
In addition to these artistic competitions, “Show Your Love for CLR: Short Form Video Contest” invites Benildeans to create a 15 to 60-second video showing why you love CLR, encouraging storytelling, dance trends, library tours, and more.
The fun does not end there
There will also be a “Golden Ticket Raffle” with prize tickets inserted in any of CLR’s books for borrowing, a “Guess the Book” quiz on CLR’s Instagram stories, and a webinar on reading advocacy that will be conducted via Zoom.
Submissions to all the contests are open until Nov. 22 via Google Forms, and judging will be carried out based on the number of likes/reactions after CLR uploads the entries.
Check out the CLR website for the submission forms and more information on the dates, mechanics, and prizes of all the events.
This is the time of the year where schools, libraries, and spaces for information services collectively conduct engaging events and prized competitions to celebrate and promote their role in the nation.
Show your appreciation, and be part of this celebration of literature and the spaces in which it thrives by participating in any of the activities this month has in store!
