The Benildean Press Corps (BPC), the official student-journalists’ organization of De La Salle-College of Saint Benilde (DLS-CSB), garnered a total of 10 awards at the 5th Assumption Outstanding Campus Press Awards (AOCPA) held at the University of the Assumption (UA), Msgr. Serrano Auditorium in San Fernando, Pampanga on Jan. 27.
BPC reigned 3rd overall as Most Outstanding Campus Publication among other publications from Luzon. The Top Most Outstanding Campus Publication recognition went to Central Luzon State University (CLSU) Collegian, followed by President Ramon Magsaysay State University’s (PRMS) The Bastion Group of Publication at 2nd place.
The latest edition of BPC’s official magazine-journal, “The Benildean: Reflection,” won as the 5th Most Outstanding Campus Newspaper. Meanwhile, BPC’s former Editor in Chief, Jorel Gabrielle Magistrado, placed 7th in the Most Outstanding Campus Journalist category.
Moving on to the individual awards, BPC News Editor, Mikaela Amira Barrosa, an ID123 BSBA-Human Resource Management student, was awarded as the Top Most Outstanding News Writer. For the Most Outstanding Editorial Writer, Magistrado bagged 3rd place. On the other hand, ID123 AB-Multimedia Arts student and BPC’s Creative Director, Yohanna Elyse Mendoza, emerged as the 4th Most Outstanding Editorial Cartoonist. Kobe Balderas, former Associate Editor for Digital Media, placed 5th in the Most Outstanding Sports Writer category.
Meanwhile, Reina Cruz, an ID122 AB-Multimedia Arts student, took the 7th place in the Most Outstanding Layout Artist category. Jairah Joakhyn Carlos, an ID122 AB-Music Production student, placing 8th as Most Outstanding Literary Writer. Lastly, ID119 AB-Multimedia Arts student Miguel Bugarin secured the 9th place as Most Outstanding Photojournalist.
The award ceremony recognized 30 participating publications from universities all over Luzon including Bulacan State University’s (BSU) Pacesetter, De La Salle University’s (DLSU) Ang Pahayagang Plaridel, Don Honorio Ventura State University’s (DHVSU) The Industrialist, and La Consolacion University Philippines’ (LCUP) Truth Couriers, among others.
BPC had also won multiple awards in the previous editions of the AOCPA. The College’s official publication won the Most Outstanding Campus Paper recognition and 1st Place for The Benildean in the 2nd edition of the awards. In the 3rd AOCPA, BPC was hailed as the 8th Most Outstanding Campus Publication.
The AOCPA is an annual event spearheaded by Regina, the official student publication of UA with its 5th iteration in partnership with CLTV36 and Cinense Library to recognize exceptional journalistic skill and commitment to the craft exhibited by campus journalists and student publications across Luzon.
