In a display of excellence and prowess in the field of journalism, nine students from the Benildean Press Corps (BPC) and Ad Astra rose above the competition and bagged 10 awards from various categories in the tertiary division of the 20th Word Cup today, March 4, during the competition’s awarding ceremony via Facebook Livestream.
The 20th Word Cup National Journalism Conference and Contests gathered students nationwide to learn and participate in the two-day online event, which featured a variety of workshops, writing sessions, and competitions in varying fields of journalism. The conference was hosted by the Word Cup Associated Editors Co. and EdCalibre International Co. on Jan. 28 to 29.
The following are the students from BPC and Ad Astra who were awarded, alongside their respective categories:
BPC:
Wallace Roland Beltran - Second Place in Feature Writing
Frances Jade Clarito - First Place in Pagsulat ng Balitang Agham
Dylan Kirsten Melencion - Third Place in Copyreading and Headline Writing
Julia Mikaela Natividad - Second Place in Photojournalism
Jyllan Sydrey Bitalac - First Place in Photojournalism
Michaela Sherry Arguelles - Honorable Mention in Photojournalism
Ad Astra:
Joshua Gayuma - Honorable Mention in Photojournalism
Max Soliman - Second Place in Editorial Writing
Rizia Marisse Guico - Honorable Mention in News Writing and Second Place in Copyreading and Headline Writing
Among these awards, student-journalists from both BPC and Astra have already proven their passion to and excellence in campus journalism, having contributed the most awards in the 9th Philippine Student Quill Awards–which earned the College’s first School of the Year title at the prestigious awards program in August 2022.
The Benildean Press Corps, the official student-journalists’ organization, and Ad Astra, the sole student organization tasked to create the College’s official yearbook, operate under the Student Publications Unit.
